Lord Shiva is a part of trinity along with Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. He is the destroyer of evil. He represents purity and truth.
Along with his consort Goddess Parvati, he represents the divine union of consciousness and energy. He is known as Mahakal - One who is beyond Time.
Nandi is born only to do service to Shiva, so he doesn't want to miss even one second of seeing Shiva, so he always sits facing Shiva so that he doesn't miss even a blink of an eye moment of seeing, worshipping and doing service to his God Shiva.
Nandi’s life is an example that, with selfless devotion everything is possible.
